Swindon Labour Leader Local Elections Response
Despite having a good year locally, it is unfortunate that national factors have led to a bad 2010 local election result for the Swindon Labour Group.
Although we welcome two fantastic new Labour Councillors in Mark Dempsey (new Labour Councillor for Parks) and Rochelle Russell (new Labour Councillor for Gorse Hill & Pinehurst), we kept hold of two other seats in Central and Western and did take a better share of the overall local election vote than in recent local elections, it was disappointing that Labour could not win back more seats.
However, now the public have spoken, the Swindon Labour Group will regroup and take-stock of how we can ensure the Swindon Borough Council can deliver better value for money to Swindon’s Council-tax payers and ensure that the Council is providing quality public services that suit the needs of ALL Swindonians. The Labour Group is determined to show the Swindon public that you can count on us to best represent you and govern this town in a way that makes the lives of ALL Swindonians better.
Cllr Derique Montaut
Leader of the Swindon Labour Group
