Swindon Labour candidates averaged 31.0% of the vote in the 2010 local election compared to only 24.4% in 2008. Mark Dempsey stunningly captured a seat in Parks ward, and newcomer Rochelle Russell comfortably beat off all challengers, including the BNP to win Gorse Hill for Labour. Overall the Tory share of the vote dropped by [...]

Laura Baker came within 116 votes of defeating Andy Harrison (ex Labour, ex Independent, ex Socialist Workers Party & now Liberal) for the Penhill ward seat. Laura fought a hard campaign and gained a very respectable 34.2% of the vote in a 4-way contest where the BNP came last with only 162 votes. Well done [...]

The Tories are spending millions (literally) on their poster campaigns and must be helping the economy doing this. This is a nice picture of Gordon that I spotted at the Moonrakers Roundabout, but it’s a pity that the Conservatives didn’t check the facts before printing it…
… the facts are that, if we exclude the full-time [...]

Today I was delighted to hear Alistair Darling’s budget. Its clear that Labour has acted decisively and consistently to support the economy, businesses and families through the deepest global recession for more than 60 years. The Tories want to put all this risk and will depress the economy – thereby increasing unemployment and decreasing the take [...]

Hello there, I’m Laura Baker and I’ve lived in Penhill for the past 38 years. I also work in the area.
I feel very strongly that the Penhill area needs a female representative on Swindon Borough Council.
I hope to tackle issues relevant to Penhill such as: parking, anti-social behaviour and safe routes to school for children. I would also [...]

“I am pleased that North Swindon’s Labour Party members have selected Victor as their candidate. Swindon needs a Labour MP to protect residents against the Tory Council’s cuts in services and I know that Victor will be a hard-working and tireless campaigner for people in North Swindon. I look forward to working with him in [...]
