Rochelle romps home in Gorse Hill

Rochelle Russell successfully defended the seat in Gorse Hill and Pinehurst previously held by Maurice Fanning. Rochelle recorded 43.4% of the vote in a 4-way fight with the Tories, Lib Dems and BNP.  Congratulations to her and to fellow workers in the ward.  Congratulations too to the voters in Gorse Hill and Pinehurst for choosing such an excellent and dynamic new Councillor!  After the count Rochelle said:

“I am totally honoured that so many good people have put their trust in me to be a reliable and hard working servant for their ward.  I also want to thank my predecessor Maurice Fanning for his hard work for the ward.

My first priority is to visit all of the people I had promised to go back to if I succeeded in holding the ward.  I then intend to meet as many people as possible so that we can properly get to know eachother.  I will be guided by my very experienced and highly respected fellow councillors as they know much more than I do and are so very generous in their willingness to help me.

I am very keen to develop a young Labour group in the area along with Chris and to capitalise on the rekindled enthusiasm I believe Victor’s upbeat campaign has created.  It’s time to get back to our roots and do what we are best at –  looking after our own.  I believe the failure of the Lib Dems gives us a great opportunity to encourage disappointed libdem voters to come home to us.  Mostly I intend to work work work…….”
